Boom Goes Kearney: Everything You Need to Know About the July 3 Fireworks Celebration

Experience independence day fireworks at our free fireworks show

Mark the calendar, pack the lawn chairs, and bring the whole family — Kearney's biggest free summer night of the year is almost here.

The City's Free Show — July 3 at the Kearney Amphitheater

The City of Kearney is hosting its Independence Day Celebration on Thursday, July 3 at the Kearney Amphitheater. Gates open at 6pm. Admission is completely free — no ticket required. This year's show features Platinum Express and the region's premier fireworks display.

The Kearney Amphitheater is located at 3001 N Highway 33, Kearney, MO 64060, inside Jesse James Park. From downtown Kearney, head north on Jefferson Street through town to Jesse James Park — about 2 to 3 miles. For questions call (816) 903-4730 or visit kearneyamphitheater.com.

Free inflatable air toys will be available for children from 5pm to 8:30pm — arrive early and let the kids burn some energy before the music starts.

What you can do with your own fireworks

If you want to put on your own backyard show, Kearney has some of the most generous rules in the KC metro area. Fireworks may be discharged from 9am to 10pm June 28 through July 3, and from 9am to 11pm on July 4. Fireworks are permitted on individual property only, or on property where the owner has given permission.

What's banned in Kearney

Bottle rockets are banned entirely within Kearney city limits — both for sale and for discharge. Wire sparklers and sky lanterns are also prohibited. All public streets must remain clear at all times — you cannot block a road for a neighborhood fireworks display, and discharging fireworks in any city park is not permitted.

When you can buy fireworks

Fireworks sales within Kearney are permitted from June 20 through July 5, between 9am and midnight. Missouri state law requires you to be at least 16 years old to purchase consumer fireworks.

The best show in town is free — and it's right here in Kearney. Head to the Amphitheater at 3001 N Highway 33 on July 3, gates open at 6pm. Bring your family, bring your neighbors, and help us celebrate 250 years of American independence in true Kearney style.
