Saturday, October 3 • 8 a.m.–2 p.m. • More than 100 registered sales across Kearney |
Kearney’s City-Wide Garage Sale returns Saturday, October 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving residents and bargain hunters a six-hour window to explore sales across town.
The Kearney Chamber of Commerce lists the event as open to addresses inside Kearney city limits, with registration free for participating sellers. More than 100 sales have been reported across town, making route planning especially useful for anyone hoping to visit several neighborhoods before the event ends.
The official Chamber event page confirms the Saturday schedule and city-wide format. Because the sales are spread throughout Kearney rather than concentrated at one location, shoppers should expect extra neighborhood traffic, parked vehicles and pedestrians moving between driveways and curbside displays.
For shoppers, one of the easiest ways to make the morning more productive is to decide what you are looking for before leaving home. Furniture, tools, children’s items, seasonal decorations, household goods and collectibles can all be tempting when there are dozens of stops available. A short list can help separate a useful find from an impulse purchase. |
If you are hunting for larger items such as a table, dresser, bookshelf or patio furniture, take a few measurements before heading out. Knowing both the space available at home and the room in your vehicle can prevent buying something that will not fit where you intended.
Early shoppers will usually have the widest selection, while later shoppers may find sellers more motivated to clear what remains. Each sale is independently operated, so prices, payment methods and willingness to negotiate will vary. Carrying some small bills can still be useful even when many sellers accept digital payment.
Reusable bags, a tape measure and a charged phone can also make the morning easier. A phone can help with navigation, checking dimensions, comparing prices and keeping track of which neighborhoods have already been covered.
Courtesy matters during a city-wide event. Avoid blocking driveways, mailboxes or intersections, and give pedestrians extra room. Neighborhood streets that are normally quiet can become crowded quickly when several nearby homes are participating. |
For sellers, clear pricing and simple organization can make it easier for shoppers to browse. Grouping similar items together, keeping walkways open and placing signs where they can be seen without creating traffic hazards can help the morning move smoothly.
A city-wide garage sale is more than a bargain hunt. It gives residents a practical way to clear space, pass useful items to new owners and spend a few hours moving through parts of Kearney they may not visit every day. For newcomers, it can also be a low-key way to learn the layout of the community and meet neighbors.
Official event details are available on the Kearney Chamber of Commerce City-Wide Garage Sale page.

We’ve done this sale for years. Early morning is best for selection, but late morning is when you can sometimes make a good deal.
Please everyone watch where you park. Some of the neighborhood streets get pretty tight during the city-wide sale.
The bulky-trash note is useful too. Perfect weekend to clear out what doesn’t sell.
Good reminder about bringing small bills. A surprising number of garage sales still prefer cash.
More than 100 sales is a lot. Definitely making a route before we head out this morning.
