Kearney Family Foundation Seeks Community Help for About 300 Children This Christmas |
Donations, Adopt-a-Family support and grocery gift cards are being organized now for Kearney School District families. |

The Kearney Family Foundation is preparing its annual Christmas assistance program, with organizers expecting to help about 300 children in the Kearney School District this holiday season.
The program pairs community giving with practical family support. Residents and groups can adopt families and purchase clothing, shoes and gifts, while the foundation also raises money for Price Chopper gift cards so participating families can buy a Christmas meal.
KPGZ reported that the foundation expects to raise more than $40,000 for grocery gift cards this season. The nonprofit has provided holiday assistance to local children and families since 2003. |

How the community can help
Organizers say the most immediate needs include financial contributions for grocery gift cards and a location where donated items can be stored for about one week during the distribution period.
Families are expected to be assigned to donors in November. KFF says its Adopt-a-Family program protects family confidentiality while giving donors a shopping list tailored to the needs of the family they are helping.
The foundation also accepts direct donations, and its website says 100% of donations go toward food, toiletries and assistance for local families. |

The goal sounds worthwhile, though I would want to look over the current instructions before committing to a family's list.
Clothing and shoes deserve as much attention as toys. Those everyday needs can be easy to overlook at Christmas.
Is there a recommended donation amount for someone who cannot take on a whole family?
I would rather contribute toward groceries than pick out gifts. Good to see both options included.
About 300 children is a lot of shopping and wrapping. Glad the planning starts before December.
The grocery gift cards stand out to me. Being able to choose a holiday meal seems like a practical way to help.
