Kearney High School football stayed unbeaten Friday night with a 31-6 road victory over St. Pius X in Kansas City.

The matchup brought together two undefeated teams and earned KCTV5’s Game of the Week spotlight, giving the Bulldogs a chance to show a wider Kansas City audience what Kearney football has been building this season.

The final score tells the clearest part of the story: Kearney controlled enough of the night to leave with a 25-point victory and keep its unbeaten run intact as the regular season moved deeper into October.

KCTV5 included the game in its Friday Night Blitz coverage and posted a dedicated Game of the Week video after the final whistle. That gives Kearney fans who could not make the trip a way to see the matchup rather than simply read the score.

Senior Kale Tucking also received individual recognition when KCTV5 featured him in its Play of the Night coverage. The station posted a separate video highlighting Tucking, giving the Bulldogs another piece of regional attention after the win.

For Kearney, the result matters for more than one Friday night. Staying unbeaten against another team that entered the game without a loss gives the Bulldogs momentum as the schedule moves toward the later part of the season. It also keeps local interest high as every remaining game carries a little more weight.

The Bulldogs have already put together several decisive wins this fall, and Friday’s 31-6 result continued that pattern. Earlier in the season, Kearney opened with a 42-0 win over Belton, later defeated Grain Valley 49-2, and beat Winnetonka 72-7. Those results do not determine what comes next, but they help explain why the St. Pius X matchup drew Game of the Week attention.

What stood out most Friday was not simply that Kearney won, but that the Bulldogs handled a matchup that had been promoted as one of the metro’s more compelling games of the week. A road win against an unbeaten opponent is the kind of result that keeps a team’s season moving in the right direction.

Fans can watch KCTV5’s Game of the Week: Kearney vs. St. Pius X and also see Kale Tucking’s Play of the Night.

For local fans, one of the most useful parts of the KCTV5 coverage is that it gives people who could not attend the road game a chance to see the atmosphere and key moments for themselves. That matters in a community where high school sports are often followed by students, parents, alumni and neighbors who may not be able to make every Friday-night trip.

The victory also gives Kearney another result to build on before the next stretch of the schedule. Coaches and players will still have plenty to correct on film, but a decisive road win against another unbeaten team is the kind of performance that can reinforce confidence without changing the week-to-week focus required during a long season.

As October continues, interest around the Bulldogs is likely to grow with every game. The simplest way for fans to keep up is to follow the school’s schedule, local coverage and the video highlights that become available after each matchup.

The matchup had extra weight before kickoff because both Kearney and St. Pius X entered the night 5-0. KSHB promoted the game as an unbeaten-versus-unbeaten matchup, while KCTV5 selected it as its Game of the Week. That made Friday more than another regular-season stop: one team was going to leave with its first loss.

Kearney’s 31-6 victory moved the Bulldogs to 6-0. The result also continued a season in which Kearney has paired an unbeaten record with several convincing wins, including victories over Belton, Grain Valley, Smithville, Rockhurst and Winnetonka before Friday’s trip to St. Pius X.

The Bulldogs’ next scheduled game is at Raytown South on October 9, followed by a home game against Grandview on October 16. That gives Kearney little time to linger on the St. Pius result, even though beating another undefeated team on the road is one of the clearest statements the Bulldogs have made so far this season.

6-0 is impressive, but I like that the article also points out they still have a tough stretch ahead. One week at a time.

Kale Tucking getting Play of the Night was well deserved. The Bulldogs have been fun to watch this season.

Really appreciate having the KCTV links included. Couldn’t make the game Friday and this made it easy to catch up.

That was a statement win. St. Pius came in undefeated too, so 31-6 on the road says a lot about this Kearney team.
